Sarajevo Skyline

Sarajevo is the capital and largest city of Bosnia & Herzegovina (formerly part of Yugoslavia). The city has a population of +/- 305,000. In 1914 Arch Duke Frans Ferdinand was assassinated in this city. The incident triggered the start of the Great War (more commonly known nowadays as World War I). Sarajevo also hosted the 1984 Winter Olympics. The city is famous for its traditional religious diversity, with adherents of Islam, Orthodoxy, Catholicism and Judaism coexisting there for centuries. Sarajevo was the subject of siege between 1992 and 1995 during the Bosnian war. Since the war the city has been reconstructed and was almost fully rebuilt by 2003.
This photo of the Sarajevo skyline has been selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 24th of August 2010. Watch this space for daily updates in the Photography and Babes categories.
