Remember 2003? Remember Jack Black before Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny and Kung Fu Panda? Remember the awesome rock ‘n roll movie School of Rock? Can you believe it has been 10 years since that film came out? I can’t.
School of Rock was written by Mike White (the same guy whose typewriter brought us 2002’s Orange County and The Good Girl and 2006’s Nacho Libre) and directed by Richard Linklater (an Austin, Texas native who also brought us films like 1993’s Dazed and Confused, 1995’s Before Sunrise, 2004’s Before Sunset and 2006’s A Scanner Darkly). School of Rock told the story of a wannabe rock star (Jack Black) in need of cash who poses as a substitute teacher at a prep school and tries to turn his class into a rock band. The film had a budget of $35 million and earned more than $130 million at the box office.
Besides Jack Black the film also featured appearances by Joan Cusack, Mike White, Sarah Silverman, Miranda Cosgrove, Joey Gaydos Jr., Kevin Clark, Rebecca Brown, Robert Tsai, Maryam Hassan, Caitlin Hale, Aleisha Allen, Brian Falduto, Zachary Infante, James Hosey, Angelo Massagli, Cole Hawkins, Jordan-Claire Green, Veronica Afflerbach, Adam Pascal, Lucas Babin, Lucas Papaelias and Shawn Rodney. Last week the cast and crew involved in making this film had their 10 year reunion in Austin, Texas in the USA. Pretty damn epic if you ask me.
The School of Rock is still one of my favorite rock ‘n roll movies. I really can’t believe that it’s already ten years old. I must be getting old or something. Need to refresh your memory, check out the trailer for the film below. I’m pretty sure that you’ll get some decent flashbacks because of this:
