Great news for fans of local music: Bittereinder’s second studio is coming out in Spring 2012! This Pretoria based Afrikaans Rap ‘n Roll / Electro act has been making waves in the SA Music scene since late 2010. Bittereinder blew away the capacity crowd at their set at Oppikoppi Unknown Brother last year. To be honest, I’ve never seen so many hands flapping up and down in front of a stage at a local music festival.
Bittereinder released their debut album, ‘n Ware Verhaal in 2011. They’ve gained quite a following over the last year or so and have played at venues and festivals all over South Africa. They won a South African Music Award last year and were also nominated for the MK Awards in 2012. They performed at the MK Awards ceremony and the after party at Arcade Empire. In 2011 they performed at the Lowlands festival in the Netherlands (which is attended by more than 80,000 annually). It seems that the sky isn’t the limit for Bittereinder.
For those of you who did not know the members of Bittereinder are Jaco Van Der Merwe (formerly known as Ajax the rapper), Louis Minnaar (known for directing various SA music videos and a renowned visual designer) and Peach Van Pletzen (of Yesterday’s Pupil and Oorlog Frankenstein fame). Bittereinder have done colabs with Richard Brokensha (of Isochronous fame), Tumi Molekane, Jack Parow, Inge Beeckman (of Lark and Beast fame) and Tim Beumers (from the Netherlands). Bittereinder are without a doubt one of the must see acts at Oppikoppi Sweet Thing this year. Don’t miss their performance if you’re going to be there.
Bittereinder have released a promo video (which features their Dutch friend Tim Beumers) to promote their upcoming album (which is entitled “Dink Dans Masjien”), check it out below.
