For those of you who did not know, Snow Patrol are a band from Bangor in Northern Ireland. The band were formed in 1994 and have released 6 albums since 1998. The current members of the band are Gary Lightbody, Jonny Quinn, Nathan Connolly, Paul Wilson and Tom Simpson. In 2003 they released a song called “Run”. It was one of my favorite songs from that year and is probably my favorite song by Snow Patrol. The band released an album entitled Fallen Empires in 2011.
Oxegen is an annual rock music festival held in Ireland. The festival has been held from 2004 to 2011. The next Oxygen festival is only scheduled for 2013 though. The event has been regularly mentioned as Ireland’s biggest music festival. By 2009 it was also being cited as the greenest festival (because of the fact that it’s a 100% carbon neutral event in Ireland). Oxegen was previously called Witnness (which ran from 2000 and was sponsored by Guinness). The festival was originally a three-day festival but in 2008 it was expanded to four days. Oxegen takes place at the Punchestown Racecourse in County Kildare, Ireland. The festival has an average attendance of around 60,000 people per day. About 50,000 of these folks camp on site for the duration, the rest travel to the site each day. In 2011, Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys, The Script, My Chemical Romance and Pendulum headlined the festival. It’s definitely one of the festivals that I want to attend one day.
In 2009 Snow Patrol headlined Oxegen in Ireland (along with Lady Gaga, Blur, The Killers and Kings of Leon). I stumbled upon this video yesterday afternoon on YouTube. It features their song “Run” being performed Oxegen 2009. Do yourself a favor and listen to the crowd sing along, it gave me goosebumps (and I’m sure it will give you goosebumps too).
Two Words: Friggin’ Brilliant. What do you think of this song and video? Please comment on this post and let the readers of Running Wolf’s Rant know. Feedback is appreciated and welcome. Also feel free to check out the other posts in the Music category on this blog.
