On Sunday I made my way to the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens in Johannesburg to catch another edition of Old Mutual Music in the Gardens featuring Southern Gypsey Queen and Die Heuwels Fantasties.
It was a very chilled out day packed with some awesome tunes. Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens is definitely one of the coolest live music venues in Johannesburg, if you ask me. Southern Gypsey Queen made their way onto the stage first. They played a blend of some awesome rock ‘n roll songs. The ballad that drummer Paul Wilson did with his brother Gareth was definitely one of the highlights of their set.
I feel that to some extent Southern Gypsey Queen are not getting the recognition that they deserve. This rock band (who was originally formed in Molteno in the Eastern Cape) has been going for 10 years. They’re tribute show at Oppikoppi Sweet Thing this year was phenomenal. If you haven’t seen them live, do yourself a favor.
I snapped this photo of Southern Gypsey Queen performing at Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens on Sunday and it has been selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 13th of September 2012.
Yesterday a photo featuring a Skydiver Over Burning Man Festival was the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant, feel free to check it out.
