Yesterday marked the 40th Anniversary of the Star Wars franchise. Warwick Davis (R2-D2) hosted the kickoff event for Star Wars Celebration 2017 and brought out a slew of important and notable Star Wars personalities: George Lucas, Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni (who has worked on Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels), Ian McDiarmid, Hayden Christensen, Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian), Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Billie Lourd and composer John Williams were all there in person, with Liam Neeson and Samuel L. Jackson making appearances via video message.

The absence of Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) was felt throughout the entire panel, so it was only natural that it conclude with a touching tribute to her memory, complete with a montage that showed off her incredible wit and charm. Check it out below:

Yesterday’s event also saw the release of the first teaser trailer for Star Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. The film is the next installment in the franchise and will be released on the 15th of December 2017. The 132-second clip teases Luke Skywalker‘s first meeting with Rey as he teaches her the ways of the Force, opening with the young apprentice on the island where fans saw her find Luke at the end of The Force Awakens.

I have to admit that I expected something a bit more exciting than this, but that doesn’t mean that I’m NOT swept away by it – anything Star Wars excites me. It will be interesting to see how the story develops. What are your thoughts? Leave a comment and let us know. Feedback is appreciated and welcome here.
