The area around modern day Tampa was first settled in 1823. Tampa was incorporated as a town in 1853 and as a city in 1887. According to the 2009 estimates, the city’s population is +/- 343,000 (which makes it the 54th largest city in the United States). The Greater Tampa Bay area has just over 4 million residents and generally includes the Tampa and Sarasota metro areas. The word Tampa might mean “sticks of fire” in the language of the Calusa (a Native American tribe that once lived South of modern day Tampa). This is definately one of the cities that I’d like to visit in the USA one day. This photo of the Tampa Skyline has been selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 9th of November 2010.
Yesterday the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant featured a Pretoria Sunset. Watch this space for daily updates in the Photography and Babes categories on this blog.
