Most of you reading this article already know that Alt-J is coming to South Africa in October 2013, but that’s not all. Today Seed Experiences confirmed that the Hives and Skunk Anansie are also going to be on the line-up for Vodacom In The City and Rocking The Daisies.
I can’t believe that The Hives and Skunk Anansie are coming here. It’s about time. I’ve been listening to Skunk Anansie since the mid 1990′s and I discovered The Hives a few years ago when I heard a song playing on one of my friend’s car radios at Oppikoppi. This is truly great news for South African rock music fans.
Skunk Anansie hail from London in the UK and were formed in 1994. The current members of the band are Skin (on lead vocals), Cass (on guitar, bass and backing vocals), Ace (on guitar and backing vocals) and Mark Richardson (on drums and percussion). The only former member of the band is Robbie France (who played drums for them in 1994 and 1995). To date Skunk Anansie have released 5 studio albums: Paranoid and Sunburnt (1995), Stoosh (1996), Post Orgasmic Chill (1999), Wonderlustre (2010) and Black Traffic (2012). The band split up in 2001 but re-united in 2009. I missed their previous concert in SA and I’m really looking forward to seeing them perform live. I can’t wait to hear them play songs like “Brazen”, “Weak”, “Twisted (Everyday Hurts)” and others.

The Hives hail from Fagersta, Sweden and have been around since 1993. The members of the band are Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist, Nicholaus Arson, Vigilante Carlstroem, Dr. Matt Destruction and Chris Dangerous. The Hives have released 5 studio albums over the years: Barely Legal (1997), Veni Vidi Vicious (2000), Tyrannosaurus Hives (2004), The Black and White Album (2007) and Lex Hives (2012). I’m looking forward to seeing these blokes in their trademark black and white suits and hearing them play songs like “Hate to say I told you so”, “Two Timing Touch and Broken Bones”, “Wait A Minute Now”, “Go Right Ahead” and others.
