On Saturday night I went to Cafe Barcelona in Pretoria East to catch Aidan Martin, Southern Gypsey Queen (featuring Albert Frost) and The Howlin’ Shabinski. It turned out to be a fun night of music in the capital city and I’m pretty sure that the Pretoria music faithful who attended the gig will agree. Aidan Martin kicked off the evening and was followed by The Howlin’ Shibanski.
For those of you who did not know, the story of The Howlin’ Shibanski started back in July 2010 when three guys collided in one room and the music that came out of the collision made them go: “Maybe…” The name of the band came during a smoke break. The vocalist wanted “howlin’” in there. The bassist’s wife piped up with “Shibanski”. It stuck.
They’re a 4-piece blues band: Midiane The Stranger on vocals, Illimar Neitz on guitar, Jako Loots on drums and Fritz Vrede on bass.
I snapped this photo of The Howlin’ Shibanski performing on Saturday night at Cafe Barcelona and it has been selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 18th of July 2012.
Yesterday a photo featuring Aidan Martin Band on stage @ Cafe Barcelona was the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant, feel free to check it out. Watch this space for daily updates on this blog in the Photography and Babes category.
