The Parthenon was built between 447 BC and 432 BC and is located at the Acropolis near Athens in Greece. The Parthenon was a temple built in honor of the goddess Athena (whom the people of Athens considered as the protector of the city). The Parthenon replaced an older temple of Athena which was destroyed in 480 BC when the Persians invaded Greece. In the 6th Century AD the Parthenon was turned into a Christian church and in the 1460s it was turned into a mosque, the result of the Ottoman Turk conquest.
