On Friday night I made my way to Arcade Empire to catch 3 excellent South African bands in Action. After the Pretoria faithful were warmed by the Newspapers it was The Smoking Mojos turn to make their way onto the stage. For those of you who did not know, the Smoking Mojos are a electric blues / rock band from Pretoria. Rick De Villiers (on vocals), Olof Bergh (on guitar), Waldo Bergh (on guitar and vocals), Bin van Heerden (on drums) and Albert Bergh (on bass) are the members of the band. They recently recorded their debut album, Voodoo Groove.
The Smoking Mojos have been around the last couple of years, the initial sound being strongly focused on classic and blues based rock ‘n roll. They played at Mieliepop Festival and FORR festival (in Mozambique) last year. They’re definitely one of my favourite live acts at the moment and they did not disappoint on Friday night at all. The Smoking Mojos were joined by Aidan Martin on stage and I snapped this photo of them performing on Friday at Arcade Empire. This photo has been selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 15th of April 2012.
Yesterday a photo featuring The Newspapers on stage @ Arcade Empire was the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant, feel free to check it out.
