Tokyo Skyline at Night

Tokyo is the defacto capital city and largest city of Japan. Tokyo was originally known as Edo (meaning “estuary”). Edo was a fishing village and it was first fortified by the Edo clan in the late 12th century. Tokyo survived the 1923 Great Kantō earthquake (which left 140,000 dead or missing). Tokyo was also heavily bombed during 1944 and 1945 in the 2nd World War. 75,000 to 200,000 were killed and half of the city destroyed. Tokyo has recovered since then, though. Today over 13 million people live in the central part of Tokyo in Japan. Between 35 and 39 million live in the Tokyo Metropolitan area, making it the world most populous metropolitan area. This photo of the Tokyo skyline at night has been selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 23rd of January 2011.

Would you mind if my friends and I would use this picture for non-commercial use, concerning a school project? This will only be shown to our class and our Geography teacher, we are working on a presentation about Japanese cities, namely Tokyo and obviously you will be named. We love that picture, keep on photographing!

    • Hey Serafin – I did not take this photo 🙂 I live in South Africa. Unfortunately its not my photo, found it on Google Images 😀
