A while ago I told you all about Converse and the Play 100 Club looking for local talent. Well, a lot has happened since then. South Africa’s finest unsigned talent on took the challenge and really got out of the garage for this contest.
138 acts submitted their diverse offerings ranging from punk rock to deep house, and one of them will earn the chance to perform at the legendary 100 Club in London.
In case you didn’t know, its the longest running popular music venue in the world. Over the last seventy years London’s iconic 100 Club has played host to a multitude of artists and genres. The top 10 bands hail from Cape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria.
The Judges in the contest: Zulu Boy, Jon Savage and Garick Williams have narrowed these hopefuls down to a shortlist of 10 and starting from today until 2 August you will be able to vote for your favourite artist on Facebook.
The finalists are: Goodnight Wembley (from Cape Town, Rock), IScream and the Chocolate Stix (From Cape Town, Rock), Matthew Mole (from Cape Town, Folk & Electric), Nakhane Toure (from Johannesburg, Folk & Rock), North of Winter (Pretoria, Rock), Savage Lucy (Johannesburg, Metal, Rock & Blues), Shotgun Tori (Johannesburg, Indie & Folk), Skin2Soul (Johannesburg, Afro, Kwaito & Regaae), Swart (Johannesburg, Afrikaans Rock) and The Kiffness (Cape Town, Electronic).
