MyScoop Introducing an Excellent Opportunity from myScoop Introducing an Excellent Opportunity from myScoopGreat News! myScoop (South Africa’s biggest blog network) recently underwent a revamp and now has awesome opportunities for both bloggers and brands.

In case you did not know, myScoop was created in 2009 and initially started as a blog aggregation tool which helped promote South African blogger’s content through the use of their sites and myScoop social networking channels. They also provided live and detailed statistics for each blog when using their tracking code. myScoop was the first of South African blog aggregators to introduce real time aggregation. I’ve been a member since their early days and I have to admit that I’m a huge fan of them.

myScoop was recently transformed into what it is today. Now it’s a mechanism to bridge the gap between brands and bloggers by allowing brands to publish sponsored posts to the South African blogs in their network. myScoop is the first and only company doing this in South Africa and they strive to keep bringing innovation to both bloggers and brands.

It’s quite easy and simple to understand and to use. When there is a new campaign from a brand / advertiser that has relevance to the category a member’s blog is in, an opportunity will become available. Bloggers then have the option to either accept or ignore the opportunity (once they have reviewed the details). If they accept the opportunity, the advertiser will receive a notification and it will be up to them to choose if the blogger will be included in the campaign. Once they have decided, the blogger will receive an email notification. Bloggers get compensated for allowing brands to use their blogs to get out their messages / campaigns to the right audience, so it’s a win win situation in the end for both parties. Pretty neat if you ask me.

What are you waiting for? If you have a blog or if you’re representing a brand, join myScoop today! It’s the logical and right thing to do!

Interesting Tweople: @Liesldb

Liesldb 02 Interesting Tweople: @LiesldbToday it’s time for another edition of Interesting Tweople on Running Wolf’s Rant.  Today I’m featuring @Liesldb, an ex Pretoria girl now living it up in Johannesburg.

At first when you meet @Liesldb, she comes across as very sarcastic, hard, (and she has been told) very intimidating, but once you get to know her, she’s actually a big softy. She loves people – well, most people. She loves rugby. Since she’s an ex Pretoria girl, the the Bulls are still her team. You’ll find her with beer in hand watching the rugby with the lads before you find her in the kitchen making salad.  She also loves quiz nights and has a weird addiction to Bejeweled Blitz on Facebook. @Liesldb is also infamous for the ‘Liesl Pout’.

Along the way she has met incredible people that have inspired her to always stay focused on the bigger picture. She believes that there are always going to be people that will do their utmost to see you fail and that the trick is to muffle their protests with the overwhelming support of the people that believe in you. She also believe that you choose your friends and they are your adopted family.

I met @Liesldb in 2011 and she turned out to be one of the nicest Joburgers that this Pretoria boytjie has ever met. I recently had the privilege to interview this stunning lady and this is what she had to say.

What are you currently conjuring up in the social media space with your magic wand?

Over the last few of years my life has changed quite dramatically.  I went from having my own business in the Food and Beverage industry, to working in the gaming industry (not referring to gambling). It’s here where I fell in love with my creative side again, writing blogs and articles after hours, basically living a complete double life that left little time for sleep. It’s amazing what you will do for a passion, even when you are not getting paid for it. This opened up all the Social Media roads for me, and it finally led me to the Marketing Team at a radio station, handling the online reputation, and a few of the Social Media portfolios. I sometimes do miss my writing. It was a platform to express myself, and now running company portfolios, it makes it harder to express certain voices that need to converse.

Liesldb 01 Interesting Tweople: @LiesldbWhat is the funniest thing you’ve seen on Twitter over the years?

That’s actually a hard question. Twitter never seems to disappoint. It has me in serious LOL mode quite often. For me, it was meeting people off Twitter in real life, and realising they were NOTHING like their personas they were perceiving to be – but that’s more a serious note… the funniest thing has to be by far a photo posted of Ricky in his fishnet shirt – priceless… @RickybyNight

What would you say is the best criteria that makes you a successful social media contributor / community manager?

I think being real is first and foremost. There is already so much BS being fed to us through so many platforms. People are desperately looking for some honesty and consistency. Talk to people… don’t just ignore followers or fans just because they don’t have social status. It’s SO important to always stay humble.

Would you say that Social Media has changed your life, and how?

It changed my career path – completely! I never for a second thought I’d end up working in a social media field, and here I am! Other than traveling, it also reminded me that there is a massive world out there, with different personalities, cultures, interests… I am learning about myself through others constantly.

If you could recommend 5 people that lighten up your timeline, who would they be?

This is putting me on the spot – I have so many fantastic people on my TL – sorry to my besties xxx (you guys know I love you all)… but if we’re just talking social media, then they would have to be the following:

  • @jodenecoza – purely because I am always so inspired after a convo with her. She’s been a saving grace and amazing example.
  • @Neil_Morrison – he’s as bat crazy in real life as he is on Twitter. His intentions are good, even if his tweets don’t portray it :p
  • @DJMorgantheKing – for reigniting my love for music. It’s my escape from this crazy world.
  • @MissHagan_ – her story and journey was a reality check for me. Her bravery to talk out is my guiding light.
  • @Spillly – the dude is kak funny… really he is.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank @Liesldb for taking her time to do this interview. I wish her all of the best with her future endeavors. If you’re not following her on Twitter yet, you might just be a dumbass. Check out these links below to some of her favorite pieces:

interview kiki 272x300 Interesting Tweople: @SniperMimeMany of you reading this probably follow this blog via @rwrant or me via @hennokruger on Twitter. From time to time I feature some Interesting Tweople on Running Wolf’s Rant and it seems that time has come today. Today’s person from Twitter-land is my good friend @SniperMime (a former Pretorian, now living in Cape Town).

She faced the intense heat with me at Up The Creek this year (near Swellendam in the Western Cape) and Oppikoppi (near Northam in Limpopo) in 2011. She shares my love for SA Music and festivals. She recently started her own blog at http://www.snipermime.co.za, feel free to check it out. You can also follow her on Twitter via @SniperMime.

I recently had the privilege of interviewing her, this is what she had to say:

So, you are kinda new to Cape Town, what are your thoughts about the Mother City so far?

I’ve never been this broke this often! Cape Town offers a whole bunch of ‘I gots to see’ events and I’ve been making an effort of attending as many as possible. As winter sets in and the surreal sensation of living here starts to wear off I’ve started to feel at home in one of the most beautiful cites in the world.

You have a huge love for SA Music, which acts would you say are going to be big in 2012?

Next to go huge? Tricky. I’d love to see Two Minute Puzzle get more exposure and I have a lot of admiration for Wild Lettuce’s guitar solos. Shortstraw are already hitting it big as I’ve hoped and hopefully The Little Kings and Legatos will follow a similar path.

What would say you was the coolest thing that happened to you in 2011?

Going to New York and embarking on an impromptu beer-hunt only to find Interpol playing an unannounced gig at a nearby bar. Also being forced to stay indoors during ‘Hurricane Irene’ which was nothing more than a typical SA rainstorm when it reached NYC.

What are your thoughts in general about the SA Music industry?

Musically speaking – I think by growing up in South Africa and soaking up extremely diverse cultural influences has culminated to forge a wonderfully strong, artistically rich youth, very positive as a whole. Display is definitely on par internationally, whatever that entails and I’m excited and honoured to witness our growth and mutual encouragement.

Would you say that social media has changed your life? And if so, how has it changed your life?

Twitter in particular has opened a lot of doors, I’ve met my best friend after tweeting for advice on headphones (got a whole breakdown of which Sennheiser to go for regarding my needs) and you get first notice of any freshly surfaced tunes, upcoming events and news. I’m totally addicted.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank @SniperMime for her willingness to answer my questions and her bubbly responses. If you’re in Cape Town and you bump into her at one of the mother city’s fine live music venues, buy her a Black Label for me. Feel free to comment on this post if you have an opinion you would like to share.
