2011 ABSA Currie Cup Match Schedule

absa curriecup logo 300x236 2011 ABSA Currie Cup Match ScheduleThe 2011 ABSA Currie Cup kicks off this weekend (on Friday the 15th of July 2011). Competition is set to be intense in this year’s tournament. The Sharks were the 2010 Currie Cup Champions and will be looking to hold their title. The Currie Cup Semi Finals are scheduled for th 22nd of October and the Currie Cup Final will be played on the 29th of October.

Only time will tell if The Sharks can do it again.  They will be facing stiff competition from the likes of the Lions, Pumas, Western Province, Griquas, Blue Bulls, Cheetahs and Leopards though. This year’s tournament is bound to be exciting (besides the fact that this year is a IRB Rugby World Cup year).

Blue Bulls vs Cheetahs @ Loftus Versfeld 2009

My dad and I have been Loftus Versfeld season ticket holders since 2005. I’ve been to the stadium many times over the course of the past 6 years. In 2009 we attended the Currie Cup final (which was played between the Blue Bulls and the Cheetahs). The Blue Bulls won the match by 36 points to 24. The match was sold out. Over 53,000 people attended the match. It was the 23rd time that the Blue Bulls had won a Currie Cup trophy. I snapped this photo at the match on that happy day and it has been selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 2nd of May 2011.

Crowd at match been Western Province and the Blue Bulls at Loftus Versfeld

This past weekend I attended the match between Western Province and the Blue Bulls at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria. The stadium was not sold out even though I got the impression that it was whilst walking around the stadium area before the game. The crowd was balanced. I’d say half of the stadium were Western Province supporters and the other half were Blue Bulls supporters. The Blue Bulls did manage to beat the visiting team by 4 points at the end of the day which made this Blue Bulls supporter very happy. I snapped this photo of the crowd on the Eastern pavilion at Loftus during the match. This photo has been selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 5th of October 2010.
