In late September and early October of this year the 180th edition of the original Oktoberfest was held in Munich, Germany. There are currently fourteen large tents and twenty small tents at every year’s festival. The tents themselves are non-permanent structures which are constructed for and only used during the festival. Winzerer Fähndl is the largest tent at Oktoberfest and can seat 8,450 people inside and 2,450 people outside.
Every year nearly 1,000 tons of garbage gets piled up at Oktoberfest. The mountains of garbage created are hauled away and the ways cleanly washed down each morning. The cleaning is paid for in part by the city of Munich and in part by the sponsors. More than 6 million people from all over the globe attend this festival annually. I love beer so I really wouldn’t mind checking out this festival one year.
In this photo visitors enjoy the day in the Loewenbraeu beer tent at this year’s festival on the 2nd of October 2013. This tent can seat 5,700 people inside and 2,800 people outside. This photo was taken by Matthias Schrader from the Associated Press and has been selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 18th of November 2013.
