Heyneke Meyer

Yes folks, its that time of the week again, time for Tweets of the Week. I’m pretty sure some of you have reading this post have been waiting just for this.

Recently the Springboks lost against the All Blacks at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg in the Rugby Championship (formerly known as the Tri Nations). The Boks had a good first half, but the team from New Zealand outplayed them completely in the second half. We watched the game at a friends place and we didn’t really pay attention the last 20 minutes of the match, that’s how poorly we performed. Heyneke Meyer and the Springboks should work on their defense if you ask me. I think our first Tweet for Tweets of the Week from @super_saffa_k sums it up.  We need to get Felix Baumgartner on speed dial before we play our next rugby test!

Don’t you just hate when someone types “LOL” on Facebook or Gmail chat or in their tweets and they’re not really Laughing Out Loud? I know I’m guilty of this, but I’m trying to kick the habit – and yes, its not friggin’ easy okay? I’ve spent years and years on MIRC before I discovered Facebook and Twitter, I can’t help it. I’m trying hard to refrain from doing this and I think @BaasDeBeer‘s Tweet for Tweets of the Week might have the solution to my problem.

I admit that at once I did the Macarena and the YMCA dance when I was young and horrendously drunk in my first year, but I’ve refrained from such activity since then. I never really “Got Jiggy With it” and I most certainly will not be getting my Gangnam style on. Dances like these are utterly stupid and I try not to do them, but I’ll still play the fuck out of air guitar (just because it’s really cool). Playing Air Guitar is awesome and it makes you feel like Angus Young or Dave Grohl and if I ever have children, that is the only dance that I’ll teach them. I think the last Tweet for Tweets of the Weeks from @spillly sums up exactly how I feel!

There you have it, 3 Tweets for Tweets of the Week. If you have an opinion on anything that I’ve said in the post, feel free to comment on it. If you’ve enjoyed this post, please share it with your friends on Twitter and Facebook. Remember: Sharing is Caring.

He’s the 54th person to be named Springbok captain in the history of South African rugby. Jean De Villiers is also 10th most-capped Springbok of all time. De Villiers made his test debut in 2002 for the Springboks.

De Villiers will be captaining South Africa in the 3 match home test series against England (which kicks off this week Saturday in Durban). The other two test will be played in Johannesburg on the 16th of June and Port Elizabeth on the 23rd of June. All three tests kick off at 17:00.

Let’s hope the Springboks have what it takes to teach the English a lesson. Dust off that Springbok jersey in your closet and get your test rugby watching shoes on before this weekend. Go Bokke!

Heyneke Meyer Named as new Springbok Coach

Heyneke Meyer 300x187 Heyneke Meyer Named as new Springbok CoachYes folks, it’s official, Heyneke Meyer will be the new Springbok coach. This was announced by SARU (the South African Rugby Union) earlier today after a Special General Meeting in Cape Town. He takes over from Pieter de Villiers, who coached the Springboks from 2008 to 2011.

The 44 year old former Bulls coach turned Bulls rugby executive will take charge as head coach of the Springbok team from the 9th of June 2012. Meyer has said that he relished the opportunity to make all South Africans proud of the Springboks. Meyer was head coach of the Vodacom Bulls when they became the first South African team to lift the coveted Vodacom Super 14 trophy in 2007. Before that, he steered the Vodacom Blue Bulls to Absa Currie Cup titles in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006 (shared). He also served as assistant Springbok coach to both Nick Mallett and Harry Viljoen.

According to News24 Meyer had this to say about his appointment “Having been involved with the Blue Bulls for so long, I’ve experienced first hand how passionate South African rugby supporters are. I know the importance of rugby in the South African psyche and will do everything in my power to ensure the Springboks remain among the pace setters of world rugby. I’m very happy to accept this enormous honour and massive responsibility.”

In my opinion, this is a good thing for South African rugby – and I’m not saying that because I’m a Bulls supporter. Heyneke Meyer is a good coach, period. I would not be surprised if he leads the Springboks to their 3rd IRB Rugby World Cup Final in 2015 (in case the world doesn’t end on the 21st of December 2012).
