On Sunday (the 25th of November 2013) I made my way to the last Park Acoustics of 2013. This event (which was first held back in 2010) has grown into one of the “must-attend” musical gatherings in the capital city. Gone are the days when only 200-500 people were showing up for Park Acoustics shows back in early 2011 – this weekend’s edition at Voortrekker Monument was attended by more than 5,000 people.
Mango Groove were the headlining act on the day and did not disappoint the music loving Pretoria crowd. Hearing the crowd sing along to almost every single word that lead vocalist Claire Johnston was singing on the stage conjured up memories of their performance at Oppikoppi 2013 Bewilderbeast this year. Not even a pending / possible rainstorm could stop the crowd from having a good time. I don’t think I’ve ever see so many smiling faces at the Voortrekker Monument on a cloudy day. I think it’s safe to say that support for local music is alive and well in Pretoria, thanks to Park Acoustics.
I snapped this photo of the crowd while Mango Groove were playing at Park Acoustics on Sunday and it has been selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 27th of November 2013.
Were you at Park Acoustics on Sunday? Did you enjoy Mango Groove or didn’t they live up to your expectations? Leave a comment and let me. Feedback is appreciated and welcome here. If you’ve enjoyed reading this article, feel free to share this with your friends on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.
