The September edition of Vredefest in Hatfield Square will feature appearances by 4 brilliant Afrikaans act. Pretoria Music Fans can look forward to being entertained by Die See, Die Tuindwergies, Bittereinder and Die Heuwels Fantasties.
In case you didn’t know, Die See was formed in 2009 and released their debut album in 2010. Listening to the album, one senses a conversation between Henry Cadle Ferreira’s melancholic singing and Dylan Thomas Graham’s atmospheric electric guitar sounds, with Dean Kenneth Basson and Jaco Mans not only providing a rhythm section, but becoming an integral part in layering the audio landscape of the songs.
Die Tuindwergies need no introduction. These Pretoria boytjies have been making waves in the SA Music industry since 2009. They’re always a fun band to watch live. Lead singer Pieter De Jager just has a way to get the crowd going and the two brothers Swiegers (Jean and Emile), the other De Jager (Dawie) and the new dwerg (Naas Veld) are always fun to watch on stage.
Bittereinder burst onto the SA Music scene in late 2010 and are probably one of the most energetic live acts in the industry. Jakkals (Jaco Van Der Merwe) likes to bounce and interact with the crowd while Perkse (Peach van Pletzen) and Leeu (Louis Minnaar) keep the tunes and beats pumping in the background. I have never seen a bad live show by Bittereinder – get your dancing shoes on and prepare to dance like you last did at your matric farewell or that wedding you’ve told no-one about.
Die Heuwels Fantasties also need no introduction. These Bellville boys started out as an electro act in 2009 and have grown into a fully fledged band over the years. They never disappoint with a live performance (and most folks who have seen them live will agree with me). Die Heuwels Fantasties’ second album went platinum in South Africa. They were also the cultural ambassadors for SA during the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand and they opened for Kings of Leon when they toured the country last year. If you haven’t seen Die Heuwels Fantasties live yet, you should definitely check them out.
