The next edition of Park Acoustics is hosted this week Sunday (the 26th of May 2013) at the Voortrekker Monument. Sadly I can’t make it because I will be attended STRAB festival in Mozambique, but that doesn’t mean that you should miss out on the awesomeness.

Park Acoustics 26 May 2013 720x264 3 Reasons Why Im Sad That Im Missing Park Acoustics This Sunday

Besides the fact that I won’t be able to say “Hi!” to my good Cape Townian friend @texxonfire, I’m also sad because of  three other reasons…..

Reason One – It’s Park Acoustics 3rd Birthday: Being an avid support of Park Acoustics (which has been become a Pretoria institution over the last few years) it saddens me that I will be missing out on their third birthday. It almost feels like I’m missing my brother’s kid’s first birthday. I’ve been attending Park Acoustics since February 2011 and it’s the one Sunday in the month that I really look forward to. Some people have Sunday lunch with the family or their in-laws, I have Park Acoustics.

Reason Two – The Line-Up: This Sunday’s edition will feature five stages for the first time. The Jack Daniel’s Main Stage will feature appearances by the Dolfins, Mr. Cat & The Jackal, Dune Rats (from Australia), Shadowclub and Springbok Nude Girls. The BOS Acoustics Stage will feature appearances by Tamara Tree, Tim Burnz, The Forester, Die See and Janie & The Beard. The Red Bull Chill Out Zone will feature sets by Kid Robot, Dub Rui, Andrew the DJ and DJ Danger Ingozi. The Red Bull Electronica stage will feature sets by Michael Lesar, Maorginal and Das Kapital. The Sunset Comedy stage will feature comedy sets by Chris Forrest, Vittorio Leonardi and Trevor Gumbi. That’s 17 acts plus 3 comedians, a pretty insane line-up if you ask me.

Reason Three – The Vibe: Since this show will be held at the bottom picnic area and not at Fort Schanskop, I’m expecting the vibe to be absolutely electric. I’m thinking that the crowd is probably going to go ape shit when Springbok Nude Girls make it onto a stage in Pretoria for the first time in nearly two years. I’m truly bummed that I’ll be missing that, that band has always had a special place in my heart – they are one of the reasons why I’m hooked on SA Music.

Well, there you have it. I’m bummed that I’m missing the show, but I suppose that one can not have their bread buttered on both sides ALL the time. I’m pretty sure that many of you reading this article want to attend the show, so I’ll can my negativity for now.

If you wanna attend this Sunday’s Park Acoustics, it won’t cost you an arm and a leg. You have the opportunity to watch 17 artists / DJ’s and 3 comedians for only R100 (if you buy your ticket on the Park Acoustics Website or Ticketbreak now) or R120 (if you buy your ticket at the gate on Sunday). If you decide to go on the whim, make sure that you arrive early on Sunday morning to avoid disappointment. Gates open at 10 AM already. For line-up times, check out the Facebook Event.

Bring along your ID or driver’s licence (since security will be checking for underage drinking), a picnic basket (own alcohol is allowed but limit the amount of glass you bring in) and sun screen (because Pretoria still gets hot in the winter months on Sundays). Also note that NO illegal substances are allowed and that the SAPS will be present with dogs, NO Weapons are allowed and that you can leave your bad attitudes at home.

There will be a bar, food stalls , craft stalls, a merch shop, ATM and toilets on site to cater for all your needs. And as usual Braaiboy will be at the event to cater for all your braai needs (so bring your meat along, but leave your braai equipment at home) and there will be a Postbox stand (showing off some very creative artists’ works).

If this excites you, make your way to Park Acoustics this Sunday to have a good time. Please have a shot for me a the bar and take lots of pictures, I want to see how it went down when I check my Facebook next week. Also spread the word about this event to your friends on Facebook and Twitter, because that’s what friends do.

Oppikoppi Bewilderbeast Update

by Henno Kruger on April 24, 2013 · 0 comments

in Music, Music News

Oppikoppi Bewilderbeast Oppikoppi Bewilderbeast UpdateOppikoppi Bewilderbeast will take place on the farm near Northam in the Limpopo Province on the 8th, 9th and 10th of August 2013. It’s the 19th annual edition of one of South Africa’s premier music festivals.

This year’s festival is going to be a huge one. I can feel it on the bottom of my trousers. I can’t wait to get that same exhilarating feeling I get every time I open up my first beer at Oppikoppi. Only a few acts have been announced for Oppikoppi Bewilderbeast. Each time a name is added to the line-up I just get more and more excited – I can’t help it – SA Music and music festivals are two of my biggest passions. If all goes well, I will be attending my 15th Oppikoppi festival in history this year (I told you that festivals are one of my passions).

So far the following acts have been announced for Oppikoppi Bewilderbeast: Jeremy Loops (winner of the 2013 MK Award for Best Solo), the Black Cat Bones (winners of the 2013 MK Award for Best Live Act and one of the bands that will rock your socks off before you can scream “Yahoo!”, “Orgasm!” or “Damn Woman!”), Shadowclub (one of the hardest working rock ‘n roll outfits in SA Music), Beatenberg, Shotgun Tori (2013 MK Awards Nominee for Best Newcomer), Bongeziwe Mabandla, Crash Car Burn (an established SA punk rock band), Dan Patlansky (who is rumored to be born with an electric guitar in his hands), Laurie Levine (one of the best female performers in SA), ISO (the same okes that blew you away on the main stage at Oppikoppi 2011), Bye Beneco (an Indie/Folk/Ambient/Blues act from Johannesburg), The Narrow (one of South Africa’s most loved live hard rock acts) and Matthew Mole (A Cape Town native who’s lyrics will creep into your soul).

Last year’s festival (Oppikoppi Sweet Thing) saw the biggest crowd on the Northam farm in history. More than 20,000 people witnessed some of the best live performances that have been seen in South Africa. You should not miss out this year! Tickets will cost R800 on the Oppikoppi Facebook page or R650 via the Standard Bank youth portal. The ticket release date will be announced soon, so keep your eyes and ears open. Remember that you can following @oppikoppifest on Twitter for updates about the upcoming festival as well.
