In August 2009 my friends and I attending Oppikoppi Smoorverlief on a farm outside Northam in the Limpopo province in South Africa. It was one of the best music festivals that I’ve been to. Koos Kombuis played an epic set on the main stage. It was also the first time that I watched Die Heuwels Fantasties perform. There were also epic performances by Fokofpolisiekar, aKING, Van Coke Kartel and Albert Frost (to name just a few). There’s less than 3 months to go before Oppikoppi 2011 Unknown Brother (which takes its name from a song by The Black Keys). I can’t wait, it’s one of the festivals I just can’t miss. In August 2009 I attended Oppikoppi 2009 Smoorverlief (just outside the town of Northam in the Limpopo province of South Africa). It was the 11th Oppikoppi that I attended and certainly one of the most memorable ones that I’ve been to. It was the 15th Anniversary of South Africa’s premier music festival. Oppikoppi was declared as a national monument at the festival that year. It was also the last time that I saw Koos Kombuis perform at Oppikoppi. It was a memorable affair, 12000 people were singing along to songs like Lisa se Klavier and Huisie By Die See. I would love to see Koos Kombuis at Oppikoppi again this year. Last year I attended Oppikoppi 2009 Smoorverlief. We were chilling in the beer tent while Andra was playing on the main stage and I snapped this photo at the beer tent near the stages. It was a very hot day. Luckily the beer was cold. I plan on attending Oppikoppi this year again in August.
