For those of you that did not know, Taganga is a small fishing village 5 km North of Santa Marta at the Caribbean coast in Colombia. The village is surrounded by beautiful desert mountains covered in natural flora and fauna.
There are millions of lovely fish and corals which can be reached by short walks and snorkeling out to corals. Taganga is considered one of the top places to practice scuba in the Colombian Caribbean. It’s famous for its coral reefs, enchanting scenery and promises great variety of marine life. I’ve never been to Colombia, but Taganga looks like a nice spot to check out on the Caribbean Coast of the country.

Today’s Daily Cool Photo features a lake in South America. Quilotoa Crater Lake is located in Ecuador. For those of you who did not know, it’s a water-filled caldera and the most Western volcano in the Ecuadorian Andes.
Quilotoa Crater Lake is located at 3,914 metres above sea-level (higher than highest peak in South Africa’s Drakensburg). It’s 3 kilometres wide and it was formed by the collapse of the volcano following a catastrophic eruption about 800 years ago. The eruption produced pyroclastic flows and lahars that reached the Pacific Ocean. It spread an airborne deposit of volcanic ash throughout the Northern Andes.
Quilotoa Crater Lake is located about 80 km South South West of Quito. I have never been to South America, but I’m definitely putting this lake on my bucket list. This photo of the lake has been selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 30th of August 2012.

I’m one of those people who truly appreciates excellent photography. In June 2011 a volcano in the Puyehue-Cordon Caulle chain of mountains in Chile erupted. Lightning flashes could be seen above the ash plume. The volcano had been dormant for decades and belched ash over 6 miles (10 km) into the sky, as winds fanned it toward neighboring Argentina, and prompted the government to evacuate several thousand residents. This photo of the eruption, the ash and lightning flashes above was taken by Carlos Gutierrez and has been selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 1st of April 2012.
