Dolphins at Bondi Beach

Dolphins at Bondi Beach

For those of you who did not know, Bondi Beach is located in Sydney, Australia. The name is derived from the Aboriginal Word “Bondi” meaning “water breaking over rocks or noise of water breaking over rocks”.

Bondi Beach was a focal point in the 1907 Sydney bathing costume protests. It was organized to oppose proposed dress standards for beach goers. The decency of swimming costumes was governed by the local authority. The ordinance was in force from 1935 to 1961 and resulted in public controversy as the two-piece bikini became popular after the Second World War. This probably sounds very ridiculous to most of you reading this.

Bondi Beach is definitely on my list of places that I want to check out in Australia one day. I’ve heard a lot about it and my gut is telling me to check it out someday.

In this photo surfers wait for waves as dolphins jump around at Bondi Beach. It was taken on the 25th of September 2012 at Bondi Beach. Dolphins are a common sight along Sydney’s world famous beaches, venturing close to shore in search of small fish. This photo has been selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 27th of September 2012.
