The next edition of the Nokia Rise and Shine Festival will be held on the 29th of March 2014 at Sandton Central Park in Johannesburg and promises to be one of the musical highlights of the year. The 1st edition of Rise and Shine Festival for 2014 will feature performances by Jeremy Loops, Yoav, Shadowclub, Desmond & the Tutus, Bongeziwe Mabandla, Tidal Waves, Andra, Michael Lowman and Dave Baudains.
Gates open bright and early at 8 AM on the day and there will be a light Yoga session on the lawn at 9 AM, before a full day of music, food, nature and friends. Delicious cuisine will be provided by a number of high-end vendors sourced from the top food & design markets. Nokia Rise & Shine, in association with Johannesburg City Parks, plant 1 tree for every 50 people who attend. The event raised 136 trees last year, resulting in a Green Footprint.
Tickets are available from the Rise and Shine Festival website or at the gate. Online pre-sale tickets cost R150 or R250 (if you want a tree planted on your behalf). Tickets at the gate cost R200. Children under 10 are welcome free of charge, but have to be accompanied by an adult and no 11 – 18 year olds are allowed at the event.
If you live in Pretoria you don’t have an excuse to miss this. The venue is located on the corner of Grayston and Sandton Drives and the entrance to the Park on 5th Street (a short 2 km tuk-tuk ride or brisk walk from Sandton’s Gautrain Station). If you decide to drive through, parking is available at Sandton City at a flat rate of R10 for the whole day. The event finishes around 6 PM, so you’ll have enough time to enjoy a pricey sundowner at Hard Rock Cafe in Nelson Mandela Square before you catch the train back to Snor City. It’s a pretty damn nice way to spend a day in Jozi if you ask me.
