Tower of London
The Tower of London is the common name that is used for Her Majesty’s Royal Palace and Fortress. This historic monument is located in central London. Construction started in 1189 during the reign of Richard the Lionheart and was expanded during the reign of Richard II (1377 – 1399). The complex has been expanded and modified up to the 18th century. The tradition of housing the Crown Jewels in the Tower of London probably dates from the reign of Henry III. The Jewel House was built specifically to house the royal regalia, including jewels, plate, and symbols of royalty such as the crown, sceptre, and sword. There is a lot more to this historic monument though. I passed this stunning complex whilst on a boat trip on the river Thames in 2004. This photo of the Tower of London has been selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 26th of November 2010.
