Valentine’s Day Infographic

Valentine’s Day is around the corner. I have to admit that this has always been a case of “Single Reminder Day” for the most of my life (except for the times that I was in a relationship), which is the reason why I’m not a fan of it at all.

Contrary to popular belief, Valentine’s Day is not a made up holiday. The holiday has it’s origins way back in 270 AD (during the time of the Roman Emperor Claudius II).  He didn’t want his men to marry during wartime. Claudius II believed that single men were better soldiers in the Roman army. Bishop Valentine performed secret wedding ceremonies without letting the Emperor’s knowledge. When this was discovered he was jailed and executed on February the 14th.

Valentine’s Day has come a long way since then. It’s certainly become less violent. The day was officially declared as a holiday in England by King Henry VIII in 1537. Cards have become popular since the 19th Century. It’s a major upgrade from execution if you ask me.

Mobistealth published this infographic about Valentine’s Day. I am pretty sure that you’ll find it interesting – even those of you who absolutely hate this holiday.
