Van Coke Kartel on stage @ Oppikoppi 2011
The last band on the main stage on Saturday night at Oppikoppi Unknown Brother was Van Coke Kartel. These Afrikaans Western Cape rockers won the 2011 MK Award for best live act and they came out in full force to entertain the 12,000+ people in front of the main stage on the night. Drummer Jason Oosthuizen made his way onto the stage, marching from in front of the stage and beating a school orchestra styled drum until he reached his spot behind the drum kit on the stage.
This was bloody awesome. Van Coke Kartel kicked off their set with their new song “Vir Almal” which was followed by a very pleasing cheer from the huge crowd. I snapped this photo of Van Coke Kartel performing at Oppikoppi and it has been selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 23rd of August 2011.
