Vancouver is situated in British Columbia, Canada. The city is named after a British Captain who explored the area where the city is located today in 1790s. The city was incorporated in 1886. Today more than 2 million people live in the Vancouver metropolitan area. Vancouver is the 3rd largest city in Canada (behind Toronto and Montreal). Vancouver is also the home of North America’s third largest film production centre (behind Los Angeles and New York City). For this reason some people refer to Vancouver as “Hollywood North”.
