Vienna Skyline

Vienna is the capital of Austria. It was founded around 500 BC (originally a Celtic settlement). In 15 BC Vienna became a Roman frontier city (named Vindobona), guarding the Roman Empire against Germanic tribes to the North. The city was under Nazi control from 1938 to 1945 (during the 2nd World War). After the war Vienna was divided into sectors by the 4 prevailing nations and supervised by an Allied Commission (just like Berlin). Today more than 1.9 million people live in the Urban area of Vienna and more than 2.2 million people live in the Vienna metro. This photo of the city’s skyline has been selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 31st of October 2010.
