Ultimate Park Acoustics experience was definitely February 2014. It is the day I met my best friend and music festival spirit animal, Marnel Smit. It was also the first time I saw Shortstraw perform live. It was also the first and last time I hung upside down from a fucking huge tree because of waaaaay too much gin. It was the greayest say of my whole entire life and I have not missed a Shortstraw gig (in my area, obvs) since!

To me one of the ultimate Park Acoustics experiences has to be earlier this year when Hot Water played. I am a huge fan and it was amazing to see them once again. The set started with Donovan in the big tree and he had to make his way down while the band started to play. After their set people got on stage to dance with the band.

Definitely wearing my fav festival sunnies, that has survived the Breede rivier as well, with my favourite Strawberry Lime Rekorderlig in my hand. Francois’ set was beyond epic in Feb 2017 and my voice was gone for a week after singing along to his greatest (and new) hits. Oh, let’s not forget the crazy awesome music of Gunshot Blue in my ears, Francois’ stage dives and “the tree of wisdom”. #ParkMe

My Ultimate Park Acoustics happened when Fokofpolisiekar played the best set I could have wished for. Sunny vibes, happy friendly people, killer bands and such a rad atmosphere. We ended up in the Park Acoustics famous tree, listening to Fokof play. We then took a walk exploring and geocaching, getting lost and making loads of friends by sharing insane stories, the perfect Sunday, perfectly spent 🙂 I’d be super stoked to go this month to have a similar awesome experience.

Ok, so except for the general epicness that is Park Acoustics, and the many…..many awesome experiences we have had there (often involving the tree 😉 ) there is one moment that I will never forget. In all honesty, it was a while back and the details of the day are a bit fuzzy, but what I do remember is the Francois VK was on stage and the very familiar opening chords to Tot Die Son Uitkom started playing. Needless to say I immediately lost my shit and completely mellowed at the same time. The kicker was that it had been overcast (possibly raining – the details, they go) most of the day, and as they song started the clouds opened up and the sun literally came out! Whether it was the vibe, the song, the sun or my trusty 5L – that was definitely my ultimate Parks experience…as of yet 😉

My ultimate Park Acoustics experience is and will always be “The next one”. A person can simply not get enough of Park Acoustics. If you’re not looking forward to the next Park Acoustics on that bittersweet bus ride down to the parking area, you have failed as a human being.. The day, month, weather or lineup does not matter as the next one will always be the ultimate experience.

My favourite Park Acoustics was without a doubt November 2016 when we caught a tan in the Summer sun as we sang along to the incredible Mango Groove and then completely soaked as the park turned into a river with torrential evening rain and Grimehouse. I have never had such fun. squatssmiles@gmail.com

After all these years the ultimate park acoustics would still be Dec ’11.. There have been a lot of great once since then, but that day with the Kongos ranks as one of the highlights of my life, such an epic day

My ultimate Park Acousitics experience was May 2015 – this was the night after Iron Maiden so I already did not feel as fresh as I would have liked to… Then the German in me decided that it’ll help my hangover if I rather walk up the hill instead of using the bus… I got so pre-occupied with nature that I somehow took a wrong turn and walked around the hill. A few friendly strangers pulled me up a part of the hill as I was on a wrong side and couldn’t get up higher. When I finally made it up the hill, my then soon to be boyfriend had an ice cold Belgian Beer waiting for me – the De Poes went down really well 😉 That day Springbok Nude Girls was playing and we rocked out to it – I made so many new friends, ran into old friends and then stayed for my first ever comedy after the bands stop playing. We ened up drinking in the Proviant until 8pm and when we drove to Capital Craft to grab some food and the free beer we got with our ticket, their kitchen was already closed, so we got KFC for our first date meal… All in all a super FUN day out in the sun!
