Great news! Together with Olmeca Tequila and Red Bull Studio Grietfest is back this year for it’s 6th consecutive year as South Africa’s biggest one day urban underground dance music festival. They will be hitting The Container Yards in downtown Johannesburg on the 27th of August with a line-up of sheer audio ecstasy with headliners Dimension (UK), Lektrique (Kannibalen Records / Belgium) and Proxy (Turbo Records / Russia) as well as one of South Africa’s leading beat magicians Sibot & Toyota.
If you like electronic music you should be heading off to Grietfest 2016 for a day and a night of dance, friendship and unity in music in the industrial capital of Africa, Johannesburg.
You can also expect DJ sets from Narch, Pop Art, Thor Rixon, Danalog, Bombardier, Niskerone, Mr Green, Hyphen, Rudeone, Xane, B-Wise, Reepa, Benson, Thacutt, Grimehouse, White Nite, Ang, Killer Robot, Stab Virus, Yeti, Mvelo, Leeu, Thibo Tazz, Omar Morto, Buli, Haezer and Ella G.
Tickets are available on the Grietfest website. Do not buy tickets anywhere else – they might not be legit and you could end up with some dud tickets. Tickets will be released in “phases” ranging from cheapest to more expensive closer to the time of the event. So ultimately it’s up to you to get in early if you want to save some money.
- Phase 3: 13 July – 26 July R240
- Phase 4: 27 July – 9 Aug R260
- Phase 5: 10 Aug – 27 Aug R280
- Tickets at the gate will cost R300.
Olmeca Student tickets are available for R200 here. Only one ticket purchase is allowed per student. A valid student card number must be entered. You must bring your student card that bares your name, image and student number with you on the day of the event for verification at the gate. You will not be granted access if you do not have your card with you. Your student ticket will have your your student card. No crying allowed if you forget.
If you want to have a VIP experience, but an Olmeca VIP Experience Ticket:
- R480 – Early Bird VIP (Limited)
- R520 – VIP Ticket (Limited)
The VIP experience gets you: VIP toilet access, VIP R10 bar access with artists, viewing deck access and access to heaters.
If you live in Pretoria and you want to go, take the safe option and make use of the Hotbox Express. Drinking and driving is not a vibe, it’s dangerous and irresponsible. It will set you back R350 (including your festival ticket) or R150 (if you already have a ticket and you require transport).
Take note that the official Grietfest after party will be happening at AND in Newtown and free entrance is offered to everyone with a Grietfest armtag (or it will set you back R100 if you don’t have one).
