Win Tickets to Old Mutual Music in The Gardens Featuring aKING this Sunday!

aKING_Adriaan-Louw-HR Win Tickets to Old Mutual Music in The Gardens Featuring aKING this Sunday! Great News for Pretoria fans of SA Music! Two great South African acts, aKING and City of Heroes will take to the stage at the Pretoria National Botanical Gardens on 1st of July 2012 (this week Sunday).

For those of you who didn’t know, aKING is a melodic, alternative pop-rock band based in Cape Town. aKING was formed when Hunter Kennedy and Jaco Venter (of Fokofpolisiekar fame) joined musical forces with friends Laudo Liebenberg and Hennie van Halen. Their music expresses their shared experience of growing up in Cape Town’s Northern suburbs as well as being a poetic take on South African life as a whole. During the past five years aKING’s energetic live sets and articulate, intelligent lyrics have won them scores of loyal fans across generational boundaries in South Africa. The band’s current line-up includes Laudo Liebenberg (on lead vocals / lead guitar), Andrew Davenport (on rhythm guitar / backing vocals), Hennie Van Halen (on bass guitar) and Jaco Venter (on drums).

aKING will be supported on the day by Pretoria based post punk/rock band City of Heroes who is fast proving that punk is not dead in South Africa. They’ve also been gathering a large following in the SA Music scene. The band’s members are Karl Muller (on vocals /guitar), Jean Lombard (on guitar/screams), Hein Lombard (on drums) and Bernard Fisher (on bass). The band says “We want our music to be an experience.  Our approach to writing the music was not to limit ourselves to a specific genre.  We want to open ourselves up to all sorts of influences so that we can make something completely new, something that people haven’t heard before”. City of Heroes’ debut album, The Great Unknown, and the hit single, Thief in the Night, were broadcast on MK, SABC 2 and DSTV channels. The band aims to create something greater than music. They want people to see that there is more that they can do, for themselves and for others.
