One of the best-kept secrets on the music festival circuit, White Mountain Acoustic Music Festival is the perfect opportunity to escape the city and soak up the scenery while enjoying a line-up of some of the best acoustic acts in the country. The 11th edition of this festival is happening from 29 September to 2 October this year.
Known for its intimate, relaxed atmosphere, the festival is held at White Mountain Lodge near Giant’s Castle in the central Drakensberg region of KZN, just 25 km off the N3 on tarred roads, 185 km from Durban and 400 km from Johannesburg.
Included on the bill (which features everything from bluegrass to folk, rock, blues and traditional Celtic and African rhythms) are the likes of Bad Peter, Ben Dey & The Concrete Lions, Bianca Santoro, Chico Muya, Gavin Ferguson, Georgetown, Heather Waters, Hoot ‘n Anny, Jack Mantis Band, Jenny & The Jameses, Jeremy Olivier, Jerry and the Bandits, Kaiti Faul, Lunatic Wolf, Matt Gardiner, Mbijana Sibisi, Shomon, Simpl3 Stori3s and Wild Lettuce.
Also not to be missed is a stripped-down acoustic set from The Black Cat Bones, as well as Cape Town’s Richard Stirton, winner of M-Net’s The Voice SA 2016.
Aside from the music, festival-goers can look forward to a wide variety of food and drink outlets, great local craft beer, vibrant arts and crafts, plus loads of fun outdoor activities for the whole family, including a trail run presented by TRAIL magazine. Visitors also enjoy full access to the lodge’s spacious grounds, dam, swimming pool, convenience store, restaurant and charming old pub with satellite TV and late-night live music.
On the food front, our awesome stalls offer everything from freshly baked paninis, pizzas and pregos to pulled pork, spit-roasted lamb, traditional Indian cuisine, quality fast foods, delicious vegetarian and vegan fare, Belgian waffles, soft serve ice cream, milkshakes, frozen yoghurt, smoothies and speciality coffees.
In addition to the festival campsite (included in the ticket price), there is also a new on-site ‘tent hotel’ at White Mountain this year. Operated by Rush Adventures, it offers a stylish, hassle-free camping experience with all the comforts of home. You can expect great music, fun times and smiles all around from this gem of a festival. You can get more info on their official website.
Advance tickets are available at Computicket and include camping for the entire festival. Adult tickets cost R585 and tickets for kids under 12 cost R125. Children under four get in free. Gates open at 7 AM on Thursday 29 September. Persons younger than 18 must be under parental supervision.
