There are less than 90 days to go Oppikoppi 2014 Odyssey and excitement has been heating up since the first 8 local acts on the line-up were announced a while ago. Great news is that artist announcements are expected to take place weekly till the end of May via Oppikoppi’s social media profiles and if you think you’re excited about South Africa’s premium music festival now, your excitement levels will probably be much higher when you find who the rest of the acts are that will be joining Oppikoppi’s 20th birthday celebrations in August this year.
Last week Hilltop Live announced that Reason, Stoker, Michael Lowman, BCUC, Gangs of Ballet, Valiant Swart, Zebra & Giraffe, HHP, Albert Frost & Dan Patlansky and PH FAT would be playing at this year’s festival. I’m pretty psyched and looking forward to Albert Frost and Dan Patlansky making love to my eardrums, to sing along to “Hello Sweet World” (while Gangs of Ballet are playing), to dance my tits off during PH FAT’s set, to enjoy a trip down memory lane with Valiant Swart and to embrace the Indie fan inside me during Zebra & Giraffe’s set.
Two American acts were also announced for Oppikoppi 2014 Odyssey: Willy Mason (a 29-year-old performer who is no stranger to festivals and venues across the globe) and Rival Sons (known for electric live performances with killer soulful vocals and sun-kissed rock ’n roll fuzz and hailed as the “Saviours of American Rock). I have to admit that I’m not familiar with either of these acts, but I’m pretty sure that fans will be enjoying their performances at this year’s festival since both acts have played multiple international festivals and because there’s absolutely nothing wrong with their music (in my humble opinion). Just have a listen below if you don’t believe me.
This is Willy Mason’s music video for “Talk Me Down” (which was released in 2013)
This is Rival Sons’ music video for “Open My Eyes” (which was released on their 4th studio album earlier in 2014)
See! I told you there’s nothing wrong with their music.
