Hoa Xuande (from Cowboy Bebop) leads a predominantly Vietnamese cast, with Oscar winner Robert Downey Jr. receiving an Emmy nomination for his multiple roles.
The supporting cast features Golden Globe winners Sandra Oh (Killing Eve, Grey’s Anatomy) and David Duchovny (The X-Files, Californication), as well as John Cho (known from the Harold & Kumar and Star Trek franchises).
Based on Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, this HBO/A24 co-production boasts an 88% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Time Magazine describes it as “ambitious, brilliant television,” while Rolling Stone calls it “wickedly funny [and] deeply moving,” and adds that The Sympathizer turns a bestseller adaptation into a “TV tour de force.”
The show is co-created by Cannes winners Park Chan-wook (Oldboy) and Don McKellar (Last Night), with Chan-wook, Oscar nominee Fernando Meirelles (City of God), and triple BAFTA winner Marc Munden (Utopia) each directing episodes.

Bel-Air Season 3
Bel-Air effectively reimagines the cherished sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air as a drama. Last season received nominations for Outstanding Drama Series at both the 2024 Black Reel Awards and the Image Awards, with Jabari Banks nominated for Best Actor as Will.
Set in contemporary Los Angeles, this Peacock Original follows Will’s complex journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the opulent mansions of Bel-Air.
As these two worlds intersect, Will grapples with the impact of second chances while dealing with the conflicts, emotions, and biases of a world vastly different from the one he has always known.
In Season 3, Will makes an intriguing shift and finds an ally in Carlton, who is eager for a fresh start.
Adrian Holmes returns in his Image Award-nominated role as Uncle Phil, joined by Nigerian-American actor Olly Sholotan as Carlton.
Bel-Air is once again executive produced by Oscar winner Will Smith and Morgan Cooper, whose viral fan trailer inspired the series’ transformation into a drama.

The Girls On The Bus Season 1
The Girls On The Bus takes us on the campaign trail with four female journalists as they track the movements of a series of flawed presidential candidates. Along their journey, they discover friendship, love, and a scandal that threatens not only the presidency but the entire US democracy.
This HBO series features Critics Choice Super Award nominees Melissa Benoist (The CW’s Supergirl) and Carla Gugino (The Fall of the House of Usher, The Haunting of Hill House), alongside Christina Elmore (Insecure) and Natasha Behnam (American Pie Presents: Girls’ Rules).
The Girls On The Bus is created by Julie Plec (The Vampire Diaries) and New York Times political reporter Amy Chozick, whose memoir Chasing Hillary inspired the series.

Fantasmas – Stream on Showmax from 6 September 2024
In Fantasmas, writer, director, and comedian Julio Torres crafts a whimsical six-part tale centered around the loss of a gold oyster earring.
As he embarks on a quest to retrieve the precious item, he encounters a host of quirky characters in introspective, often eerie, yet always comedic vignettes set against the backdrop of a dreamy, alternate New York City.
A kaleidoscope of color and surrealism, Fantasmas intertwines stories of individuals searching for meaning, purpose, and connection in an increasingly isolating world.
Fantasmas ranks #4 on Metacritic’s list of the Best TV Shows This Year and #9 on Rotten Tomatoes’ list of the Best TV Shows of 2024 (so far), boasting a 93% critics’ rating.
In a rare 5/5-star review, The Guardian hailed Fantasmas as “a fantastically creative and theatrical little diamond,” and an “outstandingly whimsical new series [that] threatens to tear up television’s rules,” declaring, “this wildly creative comedy is a beacon of hope for TV’s future.”
The cast is led by Torres (a multiple-Emmy nominee for his work on Saturday Night Live and creator of Problemista and the Peabody Award-winning Los Espookys), joined by his Los Espookys collaborators Martine Gutierrez and Ana Fabrega, Emmy nominee Ikechukwu Ufomadu (Judas and the Black Messiah, Inspector Ike, Ziwe), and Jaboukie Young-White (Rap Sh!t, Only Murders in the Building).

Random Acts of Flyness – Streaming on Showmax from 6 September 2024
The Peabody Award-winning Random Acts of Flyness returns for its second season, titled The Parable of the Pirate and the King.
This season follows Terence (creator Terence Nance) and Najja (Alicia Pilgrim), a couple on a journey to heal generational wounds while reconnecting with the traditions of their ancestors.
Produced by A24 and Anonymous Content, Season 2 received three Black Reel Award nominations this year for its Cinematography, Editing, and Production Design.
Random Acts of Flyness holds a 100% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with Slate describing the first season as “an experimental trip into blackness fly enough to post up in a modern-art museum.”
Nance leads a directorial team that includes Grammy-winning Nigerian-British artist Jenn Nkiru and Berlin- and Sundance-winning Ghanaian filmmaker Nuotama Bodomo. The series’ writers include Tribeca-winning Ghanaian-American Nana Mensah (Queen of Glory) and Sundance winner Mariama Diallo (Hair Wolf).

An adaptation of Amor Towles’ best-selling novel, A Gentleman In Moscow follows Count Alexander Rostov, portrayed by Emmy and Critics Choice Award-winner Ewan McGregor (known for his roles as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars franchise, Fargo, and Trainspotting), who finds himself on the wrong side of history in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution.
Spared from immediate execution, he is sentenced by a Soviet tribunal to live in an attic room in a grand Moscow hotel, with the threat of death if he ever steps outside.
As the years pass and some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history unfold beyond the hotel’s doors, Rostov’s confined circumstances lead him to a profound world of emotional discovery. Within the walls of the hotel, he builds a new life and learns the true value of friendship, family, and love.
A Gentleman In Moscow is ranked #23 among the Best TV Shows of 2024 (so far) on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 92% critics’ rating.

It’s a Sin – Streaming on Showmax from 11 September 2024
It’s a Sin captures the joy and heartbreak of a group of friends navigating life in 1980s London. As they come of age in the shadow of the AIDS epidemic and within a society largely intolerant of their sexual orientation, they are determined to live and love more fiercely than ever.
This five-part mini-series became Channel 4’s biggest drama launch ever, with 18.9 million viewers making it the most binged new series on the channel. Its broadcast during National HIV Testing Week also led to a record-breaking three-fold increase in HIV tests ordered in the UK.
Named the #1 Show of the Year by outlets such as The Guardian, Empire Magazine, and Radio Times, It’s a Sin holds a 97% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, an 8.6/10 score on IMDb, and 91% on Metacritic, where it was the fourth best-reviewed show of the year overall.
BAFTA-winning and Emmy-nominated series creator and writer Russell T. Davies (Queer as Folk, A Very English Scandal, Years and Years, Nolly) was named TV’s most influential person of the year by Radio Times, with the show’s star, Years & Years lead singer Olly Alexander, taking second place on the TV Top 100, and co-star Lydia West at #7. The series also features appearances by Stephen Fry, Keeley Hawes, and Neil Patrick Harris.
It’s a Sin was nominated for Best Limited Series and Best Actor in a Limited Series (for Alexander) at the Critics Choice Awards, and won Outstanding Limited Series at the GLAAD Media Awards and a Dorian Award for Best LGBTQ TV Show. It was also the most nominated show at the 68th BAFTA awards, where it won Best Director for Emmy nominee Peter Hoar (The Last of Us).
Empire Magazine called It’s a Sin “a full-on cultural phenomenon”; Time Magazine described it as “deeply humane, richly observed, frequently funny and fully devastating”; and Slant Magazine praised the series for “reorienting shame and blame from those who died to those who couldn’t be bothered.”
The Daily Beast declared it “the year’s best show” with “some of the best acting on TV,” adding, “Yes, it is the most devastating piece of television I watched this year… But [also] perhaps the most joyous.”

COBRA: Cyberwar – Streaming on Showmax from 16 September 2024
When a suspected Kremlin operation on British soil leads to collateral casualties, Prime Minister Robert Sutherland (Emmy nominee Robert Carlyle from The Full Monty and Trainspotting) must once again assemble the team of experts, crisis contingency planners, and senior politicians known as COBRA.
As COBRA contends with multiple simultaneous disasters, they begin to fear that they are witnessing the opening moves of a much larger game for which none of them are prepared.
The series features performances from Richard Dormer (Game of Thrones, Blue Lights), Victoria Hamilton (The Crown), and David Haig (Florence Foster Jenkins). COBRA has already been renewed for a third season.

The Penguin Season 1 – Streaming on Showmax from 19 September 2024
Continuing the epic crime saga that began with 2022’s Oscar-nominated blockbuster The Batman, The Penguin stars Oscar nominee Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb (aka The Penguin), who makes a bid to take control of Gotham’s criminal underworld.
This eight-episode HBO series also features Critics Choice Super Award winner Cristin Milioti (Palm Springs, Made for Love, Fargo), Rhenzy Feliz (Runaways), Oscar nominee Shohreh Aghdashloo (The Expanse, The Flight Attendant), Emmy nominee Michael Kelly (House of Cards, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan), Clancy Brown (The Shawshank Redemption, John Wick 4), Black Reel winner Carmen Ejogo (Your Honor, Selma), and BAFTA nominee Mark Strong (Shazam!, 1917, Kingsman: The Secret Service).
The Penguin is created and showrun by Lauren LeFranc (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), directed by Emmy nominee Craig Zobel (The Hunt, Mare of Easttown), and executive produced by Matt Reeves, the director of The Batman.

Elsbeth Season 1 – Streaming on Showmax from 20 September 2024
Ranked #16 on Rotten Tomatoes’ Best TV Shows of 2024 (So Far) with a 94% critics rating, Elsbeth stars Carrie Preston, reprising her Emmy-winning role from The Good Wife and The Good Fight as Elsbeth Tascioni, an unconventional attorney who also works as a de facto detective.
“A gem of a series, Elsbeth embraces a bold blend of comedy and drama centering on a beautifully off-kilter protagonist, making it a breath of fresh air,” says Variety.
Created by four-time Emmy nominees Michelle King and Robert King, the show’s cast includes multi-award-winner Wendell Pierce (The Wire) as Captain C.W. Wagner, with cameos from stars like Golden Globe nominee Blair Underwood (L.A. Law) and Emmy winner Keegan-Michael Key (Key & Peele).

The Equalizer – Streaming on Showmax from 23 September 2024
Season 4 of The Equalizer kicks off with intensity as Robyn and her team face the deadly inferno that left them trapped in last season’s cliffhanger finale.
A reimagining of the 1980s series (which also inspired the Denzel Washington films of the same name), this hit show stars Oscar nominee Queen Latifah (Chicago) as Robyn McCall, a single mom quietly raising her teenage daughter. To a trusted few, however, she is known as “The Equalizer” – an anonymous guardian angel who aids those with nowhere else to turn.
Queen Latifah has been nominated for Best Actress in an Action Series at the Critics Choice Super Awards for three consecutive years, along with four nominations at the People’s Choice Awards, where the show was up for Drama Show of the Year in 2021.
Already renewed for a fifth season, the series’ cast includes Tory Kittles (True Detective) as Detective Marcus Dante, Critics Choice winner Lorraine Toussaint (Orange Is the New Black) as Aunt Vi, Adam Goldberg (Taken, Saving Private Ryan) as Harry Keshegian, and Liza Lapira (Unbelievable, 21) as Mel Bayani, with Laya Deleon Hayes (the voice of Doc McStuffins) as Robyn’s daughter Delilah.

Fire Country Season 2 – Streaming on Showmax from 27 September 2024
Nominated for this year’s Critics Choice Super Award for Best Action Series, Fire Country stars Max Thieriot (SEAL Team, Bates Motel) as Bode Donovan, a young convict who joins an unconventional prison release program in Northern California. Alongside other inmates, he works with elite firefighters to combat massive, unpredictable wildfires.
Season 1 was CBS’ most-watched new show of the year, leading to an early order for Season 3.
Award-winner Kevin Alejandro (Lucifer’s Dan Espinoza) returns as Manny, Jordan Calloway (Black Lightning’s Khalil Payne aka Painkiller) plays Jake, Jules Latimer (Rustin) stars as Eve, and Billy Burke (9-1-1: Lone Star’s Billy Tyson and The Twilight Saga’s Charlie Swan) portrays Bode’s father, Vince, the fire chief.
Tye White (American Auto, Greenleaf) joins the cast this season, and look out for a guest appearance from Emmy nominee Morena Baccarin (Deadpool, Serenity).
Fire Country is co-created by Thieriot and Emmy-nominated Grey’s Anatomy producers Tony Phelan and Joan Rater, and is executive produced by Oscar nominee and multiple-Emmy-winner Jerry Bruckheimer, the mastermind behind the hit CSI shows, Top Gun, Bad Boys, Pirates of the Caribbean, and more.
