A while ago Vodacom and Seed Experiences announced that Vodacom In The City will be back in October 2014 to bring eager fans another incredible festival in the heart of Johannesburg’s city centre at Mary Fitzgerald Square, Newtown. The event will take place on Friday, the 3rd of October, so mark your calendars now.
Now in its third year, Vodacom In the City has become a much-anticipated music experience that brings together a dynamic mix of international acts and thousands of the city’s music lovers for an unforgettable musical experience. To kick off this year’s lineup, Vodacom and Seed Experiences are proud to announce Rudimental and Crystal Fighters as the first two international acts on this year’s stage.
These are the first two of an incredible international lineup that fits Vodacom In The City’s mix of high energy, electronic, indie and rock. Already familiar with the UK festival and music scene, this year the Seed team travelled to the USA, including Coachella, to experience, meet and solidify some of this year’s line-up. “The acts we’ve secured are huge on the international scene right now – Crystal Fighters and Rudimental played top slots at Coachella, one of the world’s largest and high-profile music festivals, this year,” says Brian Little, Managing Director of Seed Experiences. “We know from experience that the artists we have chosen will bring our fans an amazing experience from beginning to end – and that’s our and Vodacom’s main goal,” adds Brian. Vodacom and Seed Experiences will soon be announcing more international acts to join them at the event.
Multi-award winning act Rudimental (including a 2014 Brit Award) is a pioneering melting-pot collective who have taken the British music scene by storm with their debut album (Home) being released at number 1 on the UK charts. Championed for their uncompromising approach to music-making, their huge drum-and-bass-meets-soul anthem and No. 1 single ‘Feel The Love’ helped them achieve international recognition.
Mixing live instrumentation with digital programming creates the band’s organic sound. According to Piers Aggett it’s the result of years of raving, listening to pirate radio, listening to dubs, to tapes older brothers would bring home, and being inspired by all of it. Music fans can expect a uniquely awesome performance from this lot; they’re notorious for rocking the masses on the global summer festival circuit including performances at leading international festivals Glastonbury (in the UK) and Coachella (in the USA) in 2014. British alternative dance band, Crystal Fighters are well-known for their energetic and engaging live performances. Calling their sound a mixture of folk, electro, punk, techno, dubstep and Spanish pop, the band’s debut album, Star of Love, was released to critical acclaim in October 2010. Their second album, Cave Rave, was released in May 2013 and has a number of hits such as LA Calling and You & I playlisted across South Africa’s radio stations.
