22 Jump Street Trailer released

Earlier in this week Columbia Pictures / Sony released a trailer for 22 Jump Street (the sequel to the 2012 film 21 Jump Street). The upcoming film re-unites the cast from the first film (Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill and Ice Cube) and will be released in June 2014 in the USA. No release date has been specified for South African audiences yet. Both films are based on the 21 Jump Street television series (which first aired in 1987 and starred Johnny Depp in the leading role).

After making their way through high school (twice) big changes are in store for officers Schmidt and Jenko when they go deep undercover at a local college. But when Jenko meets a kindred spirit on the football team, and Schmidt infiltrates the bohemian art major scene, they begin to question their partnership. Now they don’t have to just crack the case – they have to figure out if they can have a mature relationship. If these two overgrown adolescents can grow from freshmen into real men, college might be the best thing that ever happened to them.

22 Jump Street is directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (who also directed the first film). The script for the film was co-written by Michael Bacall, Jonah Hill, Rodney Rothman and Oren Uziel.  It’s going to be a fun-filled ride if you ask me, just check out the trailer below. Take note that it’s the Red Band version, so if you have kids sitting around your room, tell them to get out now (unless you want them to learn new swear words).

22 Jump Street has potential to be a mindless and fun movie to watch, but it’s also proof that Hollywood is truly running out of ideas. It’s a good thing that they have retained the cast from 21 Jump Street though. Let’s hope that this isn’t going to be a boring movie.

What are your thoughts about 22 Jump Street? Are you giving this one a skip or are you pre-booking your tickets when the release date for it is announced in South Africa? Leave a comment and let me know. Feedback is appreciated and welcome here.
