4AM are one of the acts who will be jamming at this year’s Up The Creek Festival in the Western Cape. I recently had a chat to the band and about the festival and a few other things. This is what they had to say…
What were the highlights for 4AM in 2018?
4AM released our latest album “Dust n Dimes” We toured extensively, played a lot of major SA Festivals and had our Behind the Scenes Studio video air on MNET, DSTV, SABC for a number of months which was really great!
This will be your first performance at Up the Creek. What has other people told you about the festival?
We’ve heard amazing things about Up The Creek, that it’s in an amazing setting, Friendly people, fantastic vibe and great live acts, so we are super excited to experience it all and be able to entertain the crowd as well.
What can fans expect from your 2019 set at Up the Creek?
4AM is fun folk, 3 piece acoustic band, that love to bring an epic party vibe to the stage, we wanna get the UPC crowd jamming with us from the beginning of the set, till the end. It’s gonna be an awesome party.
How does your songwriting process work?
Generally we come up with a vocal melody and then write the music around that. We have always focused on catch hooks and up beat tempo’s. There is something in our music, for everyone.
Sum each bandmember up in 3 words
Marc – Bossy, Phoenix – Funny and Annoying, Kieron – Party lover.
What is the most entertaining thing that has ever happened to you on tour?
Besides all the massive hangovers, we recently played a well know SA festival and half way during our set we decided it would be fun to get the crowd to do an aerobics class with us and we proceeded to get the entire crowd following our very silly but entertaining actions. We were in tears from laughing so much. Great fun!
What is the worst thing that ever happened to 4AM on tour?
Our lead singer in previous band that fell through the stage which was 2 meters off the ground, and we had to stop playing. At the time it was a real bummer but watching the video footage back, it actually became a band joke and was very funny.
Name some essential items that you will be taking to Up the Creek
Guitars, Tents and Blankets! Absolute essentials. Other than that all we are going to be buying once we there is beer beer and more beer… hahahah
What are you looking forward to in 2019?
We are releasing our brand new album called “Nowhere Else” in February 2019. We’re playing as many shows as possible and of course performing at the amazing Up The Creek festival! 4 AM Cannot Wait!
I’d like thank 4AM for this interview and I wish them all of the best with their future musical endeavors.
