A quick Pre Mieliepop chat with HAEZER

Mieliepop 2016 is less than a month away and I recently had the privilege to chat to another who’s going to blow music lovers at this year festival, HAEZER.

As one of the top exports of the SA electronic dance scene, HAEZER (who hails from Cape Town) has established himself as a leader in bass heavy electronic dance music. In 2015 he played 34 shows across Europe with the inclusion of Hurricane and Southside festivals sharing the stage with Gessaffelstein, FM Belfast, Breakbot and Chase n Status.

In 2014 he released “Gold Plated Frequencies” on Tasty Records, his music video for the single “Minted” won a Silver Lion award at Cannes and his release “Troublemaker” was included on the soundtrack to Need for Speed Rivals. To date HAEZER has played at every major South African festival such as Oppikoppi, Earthdance, Rocking the Daisies, RAMFest and Synergy and it’s great that he will be making his way to Mieliepop this year.

I had a quick chat to HAEZER ahead of Mieliepop 2016, this is what he had to say:

What comes to mind when you think of Mieliepop Festival?

A gathering of popcorn fanatics 🙂

What can music fans expect from your set at Mieliepop 2016?

I’m playing a lot of new material. You can expect a diverse, bass heavy set.

What is currently playing on your iPod / CD Player / Music Streaming service that you use?

Fela Kuti, Caribou, Spag Heddy, Habstrakt

What is the most insane thing you’ve experienced during one of your sets?

Seeing SA flags and guys with Springbok rugby jerseys in the crowd at a German music festival amongst 5,000 people.

Which quote / phrase would you use to describe the term “Kief Music” ?

One chord is fine. Two chords are pushing it. Three and you’re into jazz. – Lou Reed.

I’d like to thank HAEZER for conducting this interview on Running Wolf’s Rant. I’m definitely not missing his set at Mieliepop this year, it’s going to be a blast.

If you’re not familiar with his music, have a listen to his track “Minted” below:
