    Mieliepop 2018: An Interview with D and S (D&S)

D and S (D&S) are one of the acts who will be performing at 7th edition of Mieliepop Festival next weekend in Mpumalanga. I recently had a chat to them. This is what they had to say:

Where does the name D and S (D&S) come from?

Originally throwing house parties both of us would usually open the dance floor to save on costs in order to afford cooler acts for when the party heats up. D&S (Darren and Seb) started to stick and became more permanent after we started playing at new festivals / events.

    D and S (D&S)

How would you describe your set to someone who has not experienced it before?

We really enjoy opening a dance floor and slowly getting everyone going. We enjoy unfamiliar progression that slowly gets people a bit goofy. We try focus our sound on music which isn’t trying to be too serious but rather a sound that’s groovy, uplifting and overall there to get you ready for the day ahead.

What has D and S (D&S) been up to lately?

We’ve both been slightly pre-occupied with finishing off post grad but besides that have started a new project called Summer House focusing on more Disco orientated line-ups and adding exciting acoustic acts. We’re also focusing on growing our favourite pool party “Slushy” as well as a few other crazy projects such as “Stables” taking place on an abandoned horse farm and helping build our first installation at Afrikaburn.

Who would win in a celebrity deathmatch between Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog?

    Sonic the Hitchcock.

What can we expect from the D and S (D&S) set at Mieliepop 2018?

    See answer 2.

I’d like to thank D&S for this interview and I wish them all of the best with their set at Mieliepop Festival next weekend and their future musical endeavours.
