In case you forgot, Australian Hard Rock act Karnivool will be touring South Africa in 2016. The band will be performing at Mercury Live in Cape Town on the 22nd of April 2016 and at The Bassline in Newtown, Johannesburg on the 23rd of April 2016.
Karnivool were formed in 1997 in Perth, Australia and have been making waves in the hard rock scene ever since their formation. They have toured extensively in Australia and worldwide, making appearances at Sonisphere (in the UK), Rock AM Ring / Rock IM Park (in Germany) and Download Festival to name a few.
I recently had a quick chat with vocalist Ian Kenny, this is what he had to say:
What comes to mind when you think of South Africa and rock music?
Passionate and raw. Rhythm and riot. Though.. I don’t really know SA rock well but this is what comes to mind.
You’ve played at various festivals around the world, which one is your favourite to play at and why?
Download in the UK is a massive festival. It’s one of the best festivals Karnivool have played. So many bands with a strong emphasis on rock and heavy music. Yum!
What would you say makes Karnivool different from other bands that are out there?
I guess we chase a different kind of.. different. We want to create something of our own. Something we can’t always explain but it’s feel right.
What is currently playing on your iPod / CD Player / Car Radio / the Music Streaming service that you use?
Peter Gabriel. SO…. good!
What can audiences expect from Karnivool in SA?
It’s going to be new. A first time experience for both the people and the band. These meetings always carry such a great vibe. It will be killer.
What is the funniest thing that’s ever happened to you blokes on stage at a show?
Our bass player Jon once threw out a beer can into the crowd and it hit one of his friends square in the chest almost winding him. As the beer can fell from his chest, he caught it and drank the rest on the spot. Pretty funny shit.
Do you have a message for your fans out there?
Very much looking forward to meeting our fans in SA. It’s been a long time coming my friends 🙂
I’d like thank Mr Kenny and Karnivool for taking time to have a little chat with me. If you don’t have tickets yet, get your Cape Town tickets at this link or your Johannesburg tickets at this link via Computicket.
To get you in the mood for these shows, have a listen to their track, “We Are” (recorded live on Tripple J in Australia) below:
