An Interview with the Cockpit Brewhouse

The third edition of the Capital Craft Beer festival is around the corner and tickets have been selling like hotcakes over the last few weeks. In fact, online tickets sold out today. There are still limited tickets available at the Capital Craft Beer Academy restaurant (which opens at 2 PM tomorrow), but they are also expected to sell out as well.

So, it looks like there’s going to be 6,000 punters at this year’s event (which will feature no less than 25 breweries selling their tasty brews – 12 more than last year). Beside the brews there will also be plenty of live bands (like the Black Cat Bones, the Fake Leather Blues Band and Mr Cat and the Jackal) on no less than three stages and beer talks on another stage. There will definitely be no shortage of excitement at this year’s festival.

The other day I was privileged to have a chat to the guys from The Cockpit Brewhouse (a micro brewery / restaurant in Cullinan). This is what they had to say:

How long have you been brewing?

It started brewing as a hobby in 2002 and we have been brewing commercially since 2010

Which brew is your top selling one?

    Mustang IPA

What would you say is the most unique thing about your brews?

We know it is a cliché, but all our beer is made with love!

What is the one thing you like the most about the Capital Craft Beer festival?

It is the one and only craft beer festival in Pretoria, and as we’re from Pretoria, it’s like hanging with our homies!

What is your favorite quote about beer?

“This is grain, which any fool can eat, but for which the Lord intended a more divine means of consumption. Let us give praise to our maker and glory to his bounty by learning about… BEER.” Friar Tuck

If you could describe beer in 5 words, what would you say?

BEER, raison d’être (reason for my existence).

I’d like to thank the blokes from The Cockpit Brewhouse for setting time aside to answer my questions. I’m definitely trying out their Mustang IPA at Capital Craft this weekend.
