Did you know that there are over 4.42 million apps currently available on Apple Store and Google Play? The app market is not only a crowded place- it’s overflowing! But with the ease and convenience that they offer, it’s no surprise that this number just keeps on growing. Moreover, the demand for apps isn’t slowing down any time soon.
When ideas are a dime a dozen, you’ll find an app for just about anything- even though I question the logic behind apps such as iFart to Pimple Popper. (Yes, these are real apps!)
But on a more serious note, I’m sure everyone agrees that apps have significantly changed the way we live. In a little over a decade, they have become an integral part of our lives, helping with practically everything, from shopping online to predicting the weather to finding a date for Saturday night.
The symbiotic relationship between apps and smartphones makes apps easily accessible and rather useful.
I have almost 50 apps on my phone. (Yeah, I was shocked too!) However, research shows that the average U.S. user has 20 apps installed on their mobile. More interestingly, they’re spending two hours and 11 minutes per day using them, says eMarketer. This just goes to show how essential they’ve become in our daily lives.
So it’s pretty clear that life will never quite be the same without apps. Let’s take a closer look at how people are using them, and they continue to alter life as we know it.
1. Apps enhance shopping experience
According to OuterBox, 79% of smartphone owners used mobile devices to make online purchases. For me, shopping apps are somewhere close to the Seven Wonders of the World! (LOL)
As you’ve probably guessed now, I’m a shopping fanatic. And apps have considerably enhanced online shopping experiences.
From personalized suggestions to instant notifications about offers, things simply couldn’t get better. In fact, I’d say that apps are like my very own salesperson inside my phone, ready to guide me through the buying journey by suggesting products that are more aligned with my tastes and preferences.
But it gets even better with AR-backed apps that help create ‘in the moment’ shopping experiences. Brands like Sephora and IKEA are effectively using them to get customers wholly hooked.
But the benefit extends both ways. While customers enjoy the enhanced shopping experience, apps are helping businesses improve efficiency, drive more traffic to the website, increase sales, automate operations, etc.
2. Apps improve communication
I remember the time when months would go by before I would call my relatives back home. And the fact that I was purchasing minutes meant that conversations simply stuck to the bare essentials.
But now, apps have taken connectivity to the next level. With dozens of options for chatting, video calling, and social networking, connecting with friends and family couldn’t be easier. More importantly, it’s becoming significantly simpler to stay in touch. A mere click of a button, and you can now send photos or make a video call effortlessly.
Though some may feel inconvenienced by the constant message notification chimes, communication apps help people reach out to others, primarily through the pandemic. There are limitless messaging apps to choose from. However, make sure to select only those that are safe and secure. While WhatsApp, Telegram, and Facebook Messenger are popular choices, others are also readily available. For instance, airG scam-free apps maker helps ensure that your personal information won’t be misused.
3. Apps allow to do your banking on the go
Lives are getting increasingly demanding- we need all the help we can get. And banking apps are proving to be a godsend. They support numerous remote financial actions, allowing people to pay bills, transfer money, view account balances, etc., from mobile devices.
Being able to complete transactions from any location at any time offers a great deal of flexibility. And that is helping to fuel widespread adoption of banking apps. Bank of America claims to be an industry leader, with 25 million customers being active mobile banking app users.
4. Apps assist you in managing finances
Almost everyone needs some help when it comes to keeping track of finances. And technology is making it easier to manage.
So while you’re trying to juggle your expenses between school fees and a much-needed trip to the spa, apps can help make sense of it all. There are tons of apps available to guide you through the processes, from personal budget management to savings to loan repayments.
Since finance management apps often involve syncing with your bank account, make sure to select ones that are easy to use, cross-platform compatible, and secure. Wallet, My Debt, and Mint are quite reliable ones in this arena.
5. Apps increase employee productivity
Just like banking on the go, work is transitioning to places outside the office. Mobile apps are making it possible for individuals to work from any location, seamlessly track results, and improve work quality.
In a CITO Research report, 53% of the respondents claim mobile apps help simplify business processes and increase productivity. So it all comes down to investing in the right apps. Slack, Evernote, and Wunderlist are a few that have transformed the workplace.
6. Apps help you to assess info from anywhere – instantly
Google is the number one app that everyone uses to access information. But you must understand that many people still love to read newspapers and magazines online. Similarly, others need access to educational materials. Apps make it easier to access and consume content, for whatever purpose.
These applications are merely the tip of the iceberg. There is just no way to mention all of the ways apps are influencing our lives. But one thing is true- apps have made our lives better, mostly by pampering our existence.
So whether it’s for ordering dinner tonight, hailing a ride home from work, or passing the time during your ride, an app is the ultimate solution.
But what I’m curious to see is that, with the rate at with technology is advancing, what fantastic new apps will emerge in the coming years.
