Great news! Piet Botha and Jack Hammer have released a new album. Picture this: Songs of rivers, highways and impossible love: these are the main motifs of Jack Hammer’s latest studio album, Handful of Rain. Jack Hammer is the country’s longest-standing rock band, its existence spanning three decades with Piet Botha, the “godfather of South African rock”, at their helm.
Their brand-new album comes after many years spent touring, and is an ode to the road, a story, a book of songs, a collection of quiet reflections of a man looking back on his life as a touring musician. The album was produced, mixed and mastered by SAMA-winner Peter Pearlson and was released online by VH Music and Publishing.
“Delving into the songwriting on this album is a melancholy joy, revealing different interpretations with each listen. The timbre in Piet Botha’s singing is full of longing and resistance” – Jannike Bergh, Paris Soweto.
