Remember the 1980s? That decade that most our generation grew up in? Remember Sgt. Larvelle “Motor Mouth” Jones from the Police Academy movies? Yes, that guy that used to do the funny voice overs in almost all of the films. Well, Cadbury’s Lunch Bar released a new television advert in South Africa a while ago and yes, it features the 80s of voice overs on the advert. Michael Winslow (who used to play that character in the films) is featured in it. It seems to be a trend in the South African advert industry. Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer were featured in adverts for Castle Lite in recent years.
I think this particular advert for Cadbury’s is quite a funny one. Seeing “Motor Mouth” in this advert brought back memories of the 1980s and made me smile. I must admit that I wondered what happened to him. Michael Winslow (who first appeared on the silver screen in the 1980 movie Cheech and Chong’s Next Movie) starred in the last Police Academy film in 1994. Since then he’s done voice overs for video games like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and for TV shows like Robot Chicken. It’s a good thing that a South African advert agency picked him up for this Cadbury’s advert. For those of you that didn’t know, Cadbury’s has been soothing sweet tooth cravings since 1824 (the year that the company was founded by John Cadbury in Birmingham in the United Kingdom). And I’m glad that they’re still around. I really love their chocolates.
This is the TV Advert for Cadbury’s Lunch Bar featuring Michael Winslow
