On Friday the 4th of September, Converse Sub-Saharan Africa saw the close for submissions into the fourth annual Converse Get Out Of The Garage competition. This platform is dedicated to encouraging musicians from across South Africa to enter their best tracks to win an unforgettable experience.
Huge thanks goes out to the 2015 judges (Catherine Grenfell, Okmalumkoolkat and Darryl Torr) as well as each of the 248 bands who entered.
Last week Converse saw the return of Rubber Tracks to South Africa to record the Top 10 finalists, giving each artist or band a world-class single produced by experienced engineers, with the finest instruments and equipment.
South African music fans can vote for their favourite band until 13th of October 2015. The winner will be announced on 15th of October, before heading off to New York City to record at Converse Rubber Tracks in Brooklyn. One lucky fan will also be rewarded with a trip to watch the band record their single live, so make sure you cast your vote at this link.
Without any further delay, here are the top 10 bands/artists for 2015:
Card on Spokes, Ship Dawg, Frat Pack, IV4, Umlilo, Ruby Gill, Campbell Colledge, The ABC Band, Maramza, Go Barefoot.
I’ve seen Ruby Gill and Go Barefoot live and I must say that they’re both very talented acts, so I won’t be surprised if one of them win this year’s edition of Get Out of The Garage. It doesn’t matter who wins this contest though, SA Music will the overall winner if you ask me.
