Great Scott! The Dune trailer has been released and it looks really epic. The film (which is directed by Denis Villeneuve) is scheduled to be released in the USA on the 18th of December 2020.

More info about Dune

Dune tells story about a son of a noble family entrusted with the protection of the most valuable asset and most vital element in the galaxy. The film is an international co-production of Canada, Hungary, the United Kingdom and the United States, and it is the first of a planned two-part adaptation of the 1965 novel of the same name by Frank Herbert.

Dune Trailer

Dune will cover roughly the first half of the book.  The film will feature performances by Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa and Javier Bardem. Composer Hans Zimmer is a big fan of the novel Dune, and turned down working with frequent collaborator Christopher Nolan on Tenet (2020) to score this film.

I’m very excited about this adaptation, mostly because it’s being directed by Villeneuve. He was the genius that brought us Blade Runner 2049, Arrival and Sicario. Adapting Dune for the big screen has been a lifelong dream. He directed Blade Runner 2049 and Arrival first so he can gain experience in the Science Fiction genre. Most of the ideas for Star Wars: A New Hope came from Dune. He sees the 2020 adaptation as “Star Wars for Adults”.

This will be the third screen adaptation of Frank Herbert’s epic science fiction novel, after David Lynch’s Dune (in 1984) and the SyFy miniseries Dune (in 2000).

The first Dune trailer features a version of Pink Floyd‘s “Eclipse” by composer Hans Zimmer. This is a nod to director Alejandro Jodorowsky’s proposed adaptation of Dune in the 1970’s, for which he wanted the band to write the score. The scenes on the ocean world of Caladan were shot in Stadlandet, Norway. Most of the desert scenes on the desert world of Arrakis were shot in Jordan.

I’m completely blown away by this trailer. I’m really looking forward to watching it when it’s finally released. No release date has been announced for other countries yet though. Let’s hope that we don’t have to wait till kingdom come to watch this movie on a big screen in South Africa.
