On New Year’s Eve 2010 / 2011 I attended the Tuks FM Motherle$$ New Year’s Eve party at the Voortrekker Monument in Pretoria. Oorlog Frankenstein, Pity the Fool, Heazer, Yesterday’s Pupil, New Holland, Frankie Fire, Van Coke Kartel, Ashtray Electric and Die Antwoord were part of the excellent line-up for the evening. The concert as a whole was an excellent display of South African musical talent. Like I’ve said before, I was scared that Die Antwoord would not live up to my expectations as a live act.
I was completely blown away. Die Antwoord showed just why they’ve received critical acclaim and bucket loads of good press overseas. They’ve played more than 75 international gigs since July of 2010. The music video for Enter The Ninja has hit almost 9 million views on Youtube. Both unheard of for any South African artist. Their kick-ass performance at Tuks FM Motherle$$ got most of the brave 8,000+ strong crowd jumping up and down and partying their booties off in the pouring rain. I must admit that I’m not a huge fan, but they’ve definately earned my respect as a live act. I snapped this photo of Die Antwoord on stage at Tuks FM Motherle$$. This photo has been selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 6th of January 2010.
Yesterday a photo of New Holland on stage @ Tuks FM Motherle$$ was the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant. More photos of the concert and a review was posted earlier this week in this post.
