Disney has announced that it’s own streaming service, Disney+ will be launching in the USA on the 12th of November 2019.
More info about Disney+ Streaming Service
Disney executives made it clear that all Disney+ content would be available to download for offline viewing. The streaming service is said to built to withstand 10 million concurrent viewers.
Executives have also confirmed that the streaming service would be avaible on Android and iOS devices, Smart TVs and set-top devices (that are powered by Roku) and PS4 consoles.
Which content will be available on it?
There will be separate sections for Disney Animation, Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel and National Geographic. Not all of those films will be available at launch, but many will be. More will be added over the first couple years of operation.
Disney+ will include the entirety of the animation studio’s 13-film Signature collection, the first two Star Wars trilogies and The Force Awakens plus Captain Marvel and other Marvel films.
Disney is also creating a number of original shows for the service. The includes a bunch of Marvel shows and two Star Wars shows: The Mandalorian and a show about the Rogue One characters Cassian Andor and K-2SO. Disney+ will also be the exclusive streaming home of The Simpsons. All 30 seasons of the series will be available at launch.
How much is the subscription fee for it?
According to executives, Disney+ will be completely advert free and will be making money off subscriptions only. The subscription fee will be $6.99 a month.
Disney is “likely” to offer a bundle of Hulu, ESPN+ and Disney+ at a discounted price. The company has recently obtained the controlling stake in Hulu (thanks to their recently finalized acquisition of Fox).
Will Disney+ be available in South Africa?
The answer to that question is “No”. Disney plans to roll out Disney+ across North America, Europe, the Asia-Pacific region and Latin America throughout 2021. No plans for a roll-out in Africa yet.
It’s sad that Disney is not planning to roll it out this service in Africa any time soon. Let’s hope that those content distribution deals they signed doesn’t get disolved soon. If they do we could be seeing a lot less Disney content on streaming services like Netflix in the near future.
