Great Scott! The first Doctor Sleep Trailer has been released and it’s looking bloody awesome. The film is based on the 2013 Stephen King novel of the same name.
In case you did not know, Doctor Sleep is the sequel to classic horror film, The Shining. Stanley Kubrick directed The Shining (which was released in movie theaters in 1980). Kubrick’s film was based on Stephen King novel of the same name (which was published in 1977).
Years following the events of The Shining, a now-adult Dan Torrence meets a young girl with similar powers as his and tries to protect her from a cult known as The True Knot who prey on children with powers to remain immortal.
Stephen King first got the idea for Doctor Sleep in 1998 at a book signing
Someone asked him what happened to Danny. This was a question he had often asked himself. King started thinking about how old Danny was and where Wendy was now and decided to find the answers with a sequel. It was a tall order. He considered Doctor Sleep as the true history of the Torrance family. King had to be reminded of things from The Shining he’d forgotten. It’s one of the few sequels he’s written in his career.
The 2019 film is directed and edited by Mike Flanagan. He also wrote the screenplay for the film. Flanagan also wrote, directed and edited The Haunting Of Hill House TV series, Oculus, Gerald’s Game (which is also based on a Stephen King book) and Hush.
Doctor Sleep is scheduled for release in November 2019 and will feature performances by Ewan McGregor (who plays the role of Jack Torrance‘s son Dan), Rebecca Ferguson and Kyleigh Curran.
This film is definitely on my watch list. Watch the Doctor Sleep trailer below. You’ll probably put it on yours afterwards.
